Materials That We Recommend
The materials used in making prescription eyeglasses vary based on the power and its purpose. For example, prescription lenses for sunglasses are available only in certain types of materials while clear and photochromic lenses will be available in almost all materials. We choose to dispense lenses only from tried and tested companies, those that spend significantly on research and design, keeping the end wearer in mind. Corrective eyeglasses are important; compromise will not help your vision and may lead to other problems.

Columbia Resin 39 (CR-39)
CR-39, or allyl diglycol carbonate (ADC), is a plastic polymer commonly used in the manufacture of eyeglass lenses. The abbreviation stands for "Columbia Resin #39", the 39th formula of a thermosetting plastic developed by the Columbia Resins project in 1940.
CR-39 material is used to manufacture lenses with indices of 1.50 and 1.56. This material is best suited for low powered prescription lenses. It is not as strong as MR or Polycarbonate lenses, but visual clarity is much better than polycarbonate lenses.

Mitsui Resin (MR Lenses)
MR™ lens materials are made from thiourethane resin, a material that provides great lens properties. These lenses provide numerous characteristics: clarity, safety, durability, and refractive index. They are available in high indices such as 1.60, 1.67 and 1.74 and are the most widely sought after lenses in the world.
Best suited for prescriptions that have high powers.
Carl Zeiss · Nikon · Nova · Rodenstock · Essilor
Polycarbonate Lenses
Polycarbonate lenses are best suited for rimless frames due to their strength and higher resistance to breakage. Available in a single index of 1.59 and found in all lens portfolios. Best suited for low and mid range powered prescription lenses.
Carl Zeiss · Nikon · Nova · Rodenstock · Essilor
Trivex Lenses
Trivex lenses rival polycarbonate lenses as the safest lenses on the market. Made of an exceptionally clear, lightweight lens material, which translates into excellent all-day wearing comfort. These lenses are unbreakable and come with a lifetime warranty on breakage.
Available in limited supply and best suited for low to low-mid range powers in prescription eyeglasses.
Nova (exclusive)
Glass Lenses
Glass lenses are the earliest material used in correcting vision problems. However, the limitations with glass are its weight and ease of breakage, putting the eye at great risk. As such, materials evolved over time to create a blend of glass and resin to use the best properties of both materials (as found in Maui Jim sunglasses).
Glass provides great optical clarity, the best when compared to other substitutes. Today, glass is used rarely and most companies have stopped using it as the base for optical lens production.
